About
In 2008, OakLuv organized its first toy drive outside of Alex Cox’s childhood home on 38th Avenue in the Fruitvale district of East Oakland. A tradition that would gather more and more people each time over the next six years! When the event outgrew the block on 38th Avenue, Oakluv was able to adapt with the help of Maria Sanchez of the Unity Council. Her involvement was crucial in bringing the event to the Fruitvale Plaza and has been involved in all events since.
The Fruitvale Posada as we know it was born!
In 2023, the festival celebrated its Quinceañera and drew its largest crowd with approximately 7,000 people in attendance.
